Shaheen Afridi should have stayed to bowl despite suffering a knee injury during the T20 World Cup final against England last year, according to former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar.
Such opportunities do not frequently arise in a cricketer’s career, according to Akhtar, thus Shaheen should have endured the hurt and continued to fight for his nation.
Shaheen hurt his knee when taking Harry Brook’s catch in the 13th over of the 2022 T20 World Cup final. Shaheen’s failure to finish his four allotted overs aided England’s run chase towards the conclusion of the game.
The famous pacer was then suspended from playing cricket for a few months and just made a comeback in the current Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The same knee had previously been injured in the 22-year-old, keeping him out of action until the T20 World Cup. The national team’s recurrence of the knee injury caused them to lose the championship match by five wickets, which was a significant blow.
According to The Rawalpindi Express, if Shaheen were in his position, he would have endured the discomfort for 12 balls and given his all for the nation. He claimed that he would have gotten his knees corrected later and that the World Cup was much more crucial for Pakistan.
